Chairperson of Commission X of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Hetifah Sjaifudian, expressed her appreciation for the synergy between the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Indonesia and the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education of the Republic of Indonesia through the signing of a memorandum of understanding to strengthen sports development in the primary and secondary education sector.
Hetifah stated that the collaboration between the two ministries is a strategic step in building a more structured sports ecosystem within educational institutions and strengthening the development pathway for national athlete talent from an early age.
"Commission X of the Indonesian House of Representatives welcomes the synergy between the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Ministry of Elementary and Secondary Education in strengthening sports development in schools. Sustainable athlete development needs to begin early through a planned and integrated education system," Hetifah said in an official statement.
As a working partner of the two ministries, Commission X views schools as having a strategic role in fostering a sports culture as well as being an initial space for discovering and developing talented athletes.
According to him, strengthening basic sports such as athletics, swimming, and gymnastics is important as a foundation for students' physical abilities before developing specializations in other sports.
