ThePediatrician specializing in hematology from Hasan Sadikin Hospital, Bandung, Dr. Nur Melani, Sp.A, Subsp.HO(K), said there are differences in the characteristics of kidney cancer in children and adults, which can be seen from the development of cells and the type of cancer.
"In children, cancer usually occurs due to a disruption in cell development, the genetics of which are quite complex to explain. It usually occurs early in life and is not related to a particular pattern or lifestyle," Nur said in an online discussion with the Indonesian Pediatrician Association.
In general, the most common type of cancer in children is liquid or blood cancer, which dominates around 30 percent to 40 percent, the rest are solid.
Specifically for kidney cancer, he explained that risk factors for malignant kidney cancer in children generally occur not because of lifestyle but because the child has genetic conditions such as nephroblastoma or Wilms tumor.
