The chance of recovery from childhood kidney cancer is 90 percent with early detection.
Pediatrician specializing in hematology from Hasan Sadikin Hospital, Bandung, Dr. Nur Melani Sp.A Subsp.HO(K) said the chance of recovery for kidney cancer in children is around 80-90 percent with early detection of the cancer at an early stage and appropriate therapy.

"So, theory and statistics say that 80-90 percent of malignant kidney cancers or malignant kidney tumors can be cured, but in reality, only 30 percent can be cured. And that's not even counting the 50 percent who stop treatment," Nur said during an online IDAI discussion.

This member of the IDAI Hematology Oncology Coordination Work Unit  said that kidney cancer in children, especially Wilms' Tumor , generally cannot be prevented because the exact cause is often unknown and is related to genetic factors or congenital kidney developmental disorders due to certain genetic syndromes.
