The German Press Agency (DPA) reported, citing a statement by German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, that Germany will strengthen its naval presence in the North Atlantic by deploying the frigate Sachsen.
The agency quoted Pistorius as saying on the sidelines of his visit to Singapore: "Since Britain has deployed the destroyer HMS Dragon in the Mediterranean, the German frigate Sachsen will be deployed as the flagship of NATO's Standing Task Group in the North Atlantic."
In addition, according to the German Navy, another frigate, the Brandenburg, will be sent to the North Atlantic.
Earlier, British Defence Secretary John Healey announced that the British destroyer HMS Dragon, which was sent to Cyprus following the drone strike on the Akrotiri base, had arrived in the eastern Mediterranean.
The British warship departed Portsmouth on March 10th. A week passed between the attack on Akrotiri and the ship's departure from Portsmouth. It eventually arrived in Cyprus approximately a month later.
