The Argentine national team has confirmed it will hold a friendly against Guatemala on March 31, after the 2026 Finalissima match against the Spanish national team was officially canceled.
"See you in Argentina! Following the cancellation of the Finalissima, Lionel Scaloni's squad will return to the country for a week of intensive training and a friendly match on Tuesday, March 31 against Guatemala," the Argentine Football Association (AFA) said.
Previously, the Finalissima duel between the 2024 Copa America champions, Argentina and the 2024 European Cup (Euro) champions, Spain, was scheduled to take place on March 27 in Doha.
However, the security situation in the Gulf region has been tense following the United States and Israel's attacks on Iran, forcing a number of sporting events, including the match, to be cancelled.
Instead, Argentina chose to return home to undergo a training camp and hold friendly matches in preparation for the 2026 World Cup.
In addition, the AFA will also soon announce the list of players called up and the stadium that will be the location for the match against Guatemala.
The 2026 World Cup is scheduled to take place in June and July in the United States, Mexico and Canada.
