This rare primate, also known as the golden snub-nosed monkey, was born less than a year after the transfer of a male and two females to Beauval Zoo in April 2025. Zoo director Rodolphe Delord hailed the birth as highly symbolic for the conservation of the species and for the ties between France and China. The newborn is being closely monitored in the "China Heights" section of Beauval Zoo, near the giant panda enclosure. The species is classified as endangered in the wild and is rarely kept in captivity outside of China, making this birth an important step for ex situ conservation. The three adults, Jinbao, Jindou, and Jinhua, were brought to the zoo as part of a ten-year scientific and conservation partnership with the China Wildlife Conservation Association. According to the zoo, the infant appears to be in good health, although its sex has not yet been revealed. The park, which covers 45 hectares and is home to some 35,000 animals, presents this event as a landmark in international zoological cooperation and one of its most important births in recent years.
