Anwar Gargash, diplomatic advisor to the UAE president , said that his country might join US-led international efforts to ensure the safety and security of the Strait of Hormuz, but added that no formal plan had yet been agreed upon and that talks were ongoing.
In a speech delivered during an online event organized by the Council on Foreign Relations, an American think tank, Gargash said, “We all have a responsibility to ensure the flow of trade and the flow of energy.”
Gargash also stated that once the US-Israeli war on Iran ends, an arrangement will be needed to ensure that Iran cannot use its nuclear or missile programs or its drones to “terrorize the region.”
Concerns are growing over the security of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, which Iran has effectively closed, at a time when US President Donald Trump is seeking to rally countries to deploy warships to escort oil tankers through this strategic waterway.
