The Indonesia Anti-Doping Organization (IADO) revealed that several athletes were suspected of using prohibited substances or doping at the 2024 National Sports Week held in Aceh and North Sumatra, with one case even involving narcotics use.
"A number of athletes (in the 2024 PON) are suspected of using prohibited substances, and one of them is even suspected of using narcotics," said IADO Chairman Gatot S. Dewa Broto when confirmed in Jakarta on Saturday.
He explained that the substances consumed by the athletes who were indicated to be using narcotics were methamphetamine and amphetamine.
The use of doping, including narcotics, was discovered based on a report of the results of a urine sample examination that was previously sent for testing at the anti-doping laboratory in Bangkok, Thailand.
Gatot explained that after receiving the results, his party then coordinated with the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) to convey the findings in accordance with the provisions of the Narcotics Law.
