Joan Laporta was re-elected as president of Barcelona after winning the election with a total of 32,934 or 68.18 percent of voters, beating Victor Font who collected 29.78 percent of the vote.
According to Barcelona's website, Laporta will lead the Blaugrana until the next presidential election in five years, or 2031. Laporta's term in office will be effective.
"The next years await us. This journey will be exciting. Barcelona is an extraordinary club, unique in the world because the club members elect their president and board of directors," said Laporta.
This result also means Laporta has led Barcelona for four periods, after the 2003-2006, 2006-2010 and 2021-2026 periods.
Laporta is a renowned Spanish businessman, politician, and lawyer. He rose to international fame after leading Barcelona to become the first team in the world to win all six competitions in a single season in 2008-2009. At the time, Barcelona was coached by Pep Guardiola.
Initially, Laporta's decision to appoint Guardiola as the first team coach was criticized by many because he had no experience coaching at a big club and had only coached Barcelona B.
