Minister of Communication and Digital Meutya Hafid emphasized that the presence of Government Regulation number 17 of 2025 concerning the Protection of Electronic System Governance in Child Protection is urgent for Indonesia because it can maintain privacy and protect children's data in the digital space.
He conveyed this based on studies and legal cases that have been carried out in other countries where children's data and privacy in the digital space are exploited and even monetized unethically and irresponsibly.
"We enacted this regulation to protect children's private data. Currently, children's private data is scattered across various social media platforms, and children don't yet know what data should and shouldn't be shared," said Meutya at the Ministry of Communication and Digital's office.
