Trump announces the possibility of reaching an agreement on Iran within 5 days or less

US President Donald Trump announced that the United States is very determined to make a deal with Iran, and that an agreement could be reached in 5 days or less.

Trump told CNBC that the United States is "very determined to make a deal with Iran," adding that "the United States is not talking to one leader but to a group of representatives, and insists that the negotiations amount to regime change for Iran."

In a statement to Fox Business, the US president said that "Iran is very keen to make a deal and that an agreement could be reached in five days or less."

He noted that negotiations took place last night, Sunday, with the participation of special envoys Jared Kushner and Steve Wittkopf, and with assistance from Egypt, Pakistan and Turkey.

Information about the alleged negotiations is conflicting, as Trump had previously announced that he had ordered the postponement of military strikes against power plants and energy infrastructure in Iran, following talks he described as good and productive between Washington and Iran.

For its part, the Iranian Foreign Ministry confirmed that there are no negotiations between Tehran and Washington, noting that the US president’s statements come within the framework of attempts to reduce energy prices and buy time to implement his military plans.

A senior Iranian security official told Tasnim News Agency that "Trump backed down from launching an attack on vital infrastructure after Iranian military threats became credible," noting that "increasing pressure on financial markets and the threat to Treasury bonds within America and the West was another important factor in this retreat."
