Uganda: 8.5% growth recorded in the last quarter of 2025

The year 2025 ended on a positive note for the Ugandan economy. The country recorded growth of 8.5% in the last quarter of last year, compared to 5.4% in the same period in 2024, the Finance Minister announced on Tuesday.

Authorities attribute the increase to "strong consumer demand and the dynamism of several sectors, including construction." Its impact on the population remains to be seen.

In the good news section, construction work on the East African Pipeline (EACOP) is 80% complete.

This $5 billion project will transport crude oil from the country's oil fields to the port of Tanga in Tanzania.

Uganda is expected to produce its first barrels of oil in the second half of the year. Oil production is projected to generate over $500 million in revenue for the 2026/2027 fiscal year.
