YouTube introduces child protection features to support PP Tunas

YouTube is introducing various features to protect children and adolescents in the digital space in line with the implementation of Government Regulation Number 17 of 2025 concerning the Governance of Electronic Systems for Child Protection.

"This approach provides incentives for the creation of integrated protection features and age-appropriate digital experiences for young people, rather than implementing a blanket ban," YouTube Indonesia said in an official statement received.

YouTube has introduced a number of protection features that place parents in the primary control of their children's digital activities. One such feature is the YouTube Shorts viewing duration setting, which allows parents to limit viewing time to zero.

Additionally, YouTube is introducing artificial intelligence (AI)-based age verification technology to ensure users receive an age-appropriate experience. This age inference technology will be rolled out well before the implementation deadline of the Tunas PP in March 2027.
