Absent from the Madrid Open, Alcaraz is not worried about being left far behind by Sinner

Carlos Alcaraz is not worried about falling further behind Jannik Sinner in ATP Tour points after withdrawing from last week's Barcelona Open and this week's Madrid Open due to a hand injury.

Alcaraz said he was prepared to be patient in his quest to catch his arch-rival, Sinner, who replaced the Spaniard at the top after winning their final match in early April at the 2026 Monte-Carlo Masters.

"It's been a long journey, and we're going to try to do things as well as we can, and hopefully the number one ranking will come back if we do things right," Alcaraz was quoted as saying by the ATP on Wednesday.

The 22-year-old emphasized that the most important thing is to strive to improve every day. He is determined to keep practicing until he can reach the world number one ranking.
