Account restriction policy protects children from digital space crimes

Communications and Digital Minister Meutya Hafid said the policy restricting access to digital accounts for children under 16 years of age is intended to protect them from digital crimes.

He warned that women and children are increasingly vulnerable to becoming victims of crimes in the digital space, ranging from sextortion , content manipulation-based fraud, to human trafficking.

"The digital realm makes it easier for people to commit extortion, fraud, and human trafficking against women. This shows that we must all work together to protect women in the digital space," Meutya said in a discussion on a private television station.

Meutya believes that this threat can no longer be viewed as a normal internet nuisance, but rather as a safety issue that requires stronger protection.

According to him, cybercrime is growing faster due to the ease of content distribution and the anonymity of perpetrators.
