Beach volleyball player Bintang Akbar carries the Indonesian flag at the opening of ABG 2026

 

  Beach volleyball athlete Bintang Akbar was entrusted with carrying the Indonesian flag at the opening ceremony of the 2026 Asian Beach Games (ABG) in Sanya, Hainan Province, China, on Wednesday.

Chef de Mission (CdM) of the Indonesian Contingent for the 2026 Asian Beach Games Krisna Bayu, in an official statement received in Jakarta ahead of the opening ceremony, explained that the appointment of Bintang Akbar was based on a combination of achievements and strong personal qualities.

Bintang has demonstrated consistent achievements, dedication, and fighting spirit in bringing honor to the Indonesian Team in various international events.

In addition to gold medals in two SEA Games, Bintang also recorded bringing the Indonesian Team to the championship title at the Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour Futures 2024, champion at the Sanvinest Khanh Hoa Cup 2025 (Vietnam), runner-up at the Beach Pro Tour Futures Qingdao 2025 (China), and third place at the AVC Beach Tour Raja Ampat Open 2026.

Not only is he successful, the 24-year-old athlete also represents a leadership character and is an inspiration for the younger generation.

"The Grand Star is a symbol of the nation's indomitable spirit and pride. We believe it can represent Indonesia with honor on the international stage," said Krisna.
