A study conducted by scientists from Texas A&M University showed that travel not only gives a person the pleasure of exploration, but also carries profound health benefits that affect the heart and psychological state.
As part of the research, scientists conducted experiments on 20 students during a cruise, where participants wore smartwatches equipped with applications to monitor health indicators, such as heart rate, movement and physical activity. The students were asked to record their activities and the events they participated in throughout the trip, which enabled the researchers to link daily behaviors and activities during travel to the state of the cardiovascular system.
The results showed that travel imposes a unique rhythm on the heart, similar to the training of athletes, through an alternating pattern of tension and relaxation. Initially, new experiences stimulate the heartbeat, followed by rest periods that recharge the energy, a process that helps improve cardiovascular health.
The study also concluded that longer vacations and trips have more sustainable effects compared to shorter trips; for example, a week-long vacation helps relieve stress for a longer period compared to a weekend getaway.
