Benin: The Constitutional Court confirms Romuald Wadagni's victory

In Benin, Romuald Wadagni has been officially declared the winner of the presidential election of April 12 in this West African country, according to the final results published Thursday by the Constitutional Court.

Confirming in the process the provisional results announced last week which credited him with 94% of the votes, against just under 6% for his only opponent Paul Hounkpe.

Romuald Wadagni will take office as head of the country on May 24th. He will have to face numerous challenges, including insecurity in the northern part of the country due to attacks attributed to jihadist groups and a huge gap between rich and poor.

Analysts believe he might opt for continuity with the policies of Patrice Talon, whose finance minister he was for a decade.

At the head of this department, he contributed to restoring Benin's public finances, reducing the country's deficit by a third to 3% of GDP.
