Two people were stabbed on Wednesday in a London neighborhood with a large Jewish population, and a 45-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder in what authorities described as an “anti-Semitic attack.”
Politicians condemned the attack, which followed a series of arson attacks on synagogues and other Jewish sites in the city. Prime Minister Keir Starmer said, “Attacks on Jews here are attacks on Britain.”
The Shomrim organization said on its X platform that a man was seen running with a knife and attempting to stab Jewish residents before a member of the organization was able to apprehend him. It added that police arrived at the scene and used a stun gun.
The incident follows a series of arson attacks in recent weeks targeting Jewish sites in London , including a synagogue and ambulances belonging to a charity.
Britain's chief rabbi said Jews in Britain are facing a campaign of violence and intimidation.
It has been reported that “the number of antisemitic incidents across the UK has risen since Hamas’s attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, and the subsequent Gaza war,” according to the Community Safety Trust. The group recorded 3,700 incidents in 2025, up from 1,662 in 2022.
