Chairman of the Indonesian Athletics Association (PB PASI) Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan said the four medals won by Papua Athletics Center (PAC) athletes at the 86th Singapore Open Track & Field Championships 2026 underscores the great athletic potential of eastern Indonesia through structured development programs.
"Winning these four medals confirms that Eastern Indonesia's athletic potential will flourish through a structured program. This international exposure is a crucial investment, and the decentralized synergy of coaching in Mimika between PB PASI and PT Freeport Indonesia is now slowly addressing the need for national athletic regeneration," Luhut said in an official statement in Jakarta on Wednesday.
At the event which took place at the National Stadium, Singapore Sports Hub, 15–17 April, PAC athletes collected one gold medal, two silver medals, and one bronze medal.
Vinsensia Awutet Amjaram won the gold medal in the women's long jump with a time of 5.78 meters. Mergina Asyerem won the silver medals in the women's 400 meters (55.96 seconds) and Lina Hisage won the women's shot put.
Meanwhile, Kresensia Mobok Ndiken won a bronze medal in the women's javelin throw with a distance of 41.15 meters, a significant achievement in her international debut.
