Ghana: Carlos Queiroz appointed coach ahead of the World Cup

Ghana has officially announced the appointment of Carlos Queiroz as the new coach of the Black Stars, a few months before the World Cup.

The 73-year-old Portuguese coach succeeds Otto Addo, who was dismissed at the end of March after disappointing results, particularly in friendly matches against Germany and Austria. The team also failed to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

An experienced coach

Carlos Queiroz has a long international career. A former assistant to Alex Ferguson at Manchester United, he has also managed several national teams, including Portugal, Iran and Egypt.

He notably led Portugal to the round of 16 at the 2010 World Cup and participated in several editions of the tournament with Iran. More recently, he was in charge of the Omani national team.

Objective: to revive the Black Stars

In his first statements, the new coach displayed his determination to meet the challenge, praising the potential of Ghanaian football and affirming his desire to become part of its history.

Ghana will play their first World Cup match on June 17 against Panama, before facing England and Croatia in the group stage.

The competition will take place this summer in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
