Google Cloud: Global companies target Indonesia to strengthen digital presence

Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian said that Indonesia's economic growth is a magnet for international companies to strengthen their digital presence in the country.

Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the Google Cloud Next 26 event in Las Vegas, United States, Thursday (23/4) local time, Kurian said there was an increasing trend of collaboration with global companies that wanted to use their cloud infrastructure specifically to serve customers in Indonesia.

"We also see that now, as the Indonesian economy grows, international companies are partnering with us because they want to position their systems to serve customers in Indonesia," he said.

“We also see international companies talking to us about using our cloud to host their systems for customers in Indonesia,” he continued.

Kurian said that Google Cloud has a large number of customers in Indonesia, ranging from commercial companies, small businesses, and the government.

He also emphasized the technology giant's commitment to continue investing in bringing the latest technology to Indonesia.

According to him, the implementation of Gemini and Google Workspace has become a superior product that is now starting to be adopted massively by local industry players in various strategic sectors.

"There are several examples of companies in Indonesia using our AI tools, whether it's the AI technology in Workspace, our data platform, or our Gemini portfolio of products. And you'll see us continue to invest in bringing our technology to companies in Indonesia," he emphasized.

Furthermore, Kurian touched on the latest wave of innovation that was just introduced at Google Cloud Next 26, which is designed to help every organization in Southeast Asia collaborate in business with AI to become an Agentic Enterprise .

Based on a unified stack designed to transform intelligence into a growth engine, AI is no longer in its early stages with a chat system where people ask questions and AI provides answers.

However, AI is now moving towards autonomous Artificial Intelligence (AI) agents that are able to understand, reason, and act to produce real impact.

"The second version of AI involves giving commands to the model, and then those commands are used to generate images or videos. And that's the second skill, where the model can create content for you," he said.
