Hansi Flick confirms he wants to extend his contract with Barcelona

Barcelona coach Hansi Flick has confirmed his intention to extend his contract with the Catalan club.

Flick's current contract runs until the summer of 2027, and he has previously stated that Barcelona will be his last coaching job.

"My plan is to extend my contract. I'm 100 percent honest. Barcelona will be the last club of my career. I feel very good. I'd like to extend, but now is not the right time to talk about it," Flick said, as quoted by The Athletics.

This desire is also in line with the stance of Barcelona President Joan Laporta, who previously expressed his hope that the 61-year-old coach would soon sign a new contract.

Although Barcelona made the Champions League their main target this season, their progress was stopped in the quarter-finals after losing 2-3 on aggregate to Atletico Madrid.

However, Flick remains committed to bringing the Blaugrana back to glory in Europe's elite competition.

He has a long-term vision, including leading Barcelona to play at a completely renovated Camp Nou and developing a young squad that is considered to have great potential.

"The Champions League is a big dream. That's the goal; we have a fantastic team for the next few years. We have to make the right decisions in the summer transfer window. This team is still young and has great potential to continue growing," said Flick.

"I want to coach at this stadium when it's finished. I've always given everything I can for this club, along with my staff. I'm very happy with the atmosphere here—it's like a second family, full of energy. Elimination is part of football, and we have to take strength from it," he said.

Flick joined Barcelona in the summer of 2024 and immediately delivered the La Liga title in his debut season.

Previously, he also successfully won the Bundesliga and Champions League with Bayern Munich, and was assistant coach when Germany won the 2014 World Cup, before managing the German national team from 2021–2023.

He also called Barcelona the best environment throughout his football career.

"I had a great time with the national team and Bayern, but here I feel like everything is at its best. Looking at my career and my family, I'm very happy," said Flick.

Barcelona currently leads the La Liga standings by nine points with seven games remaining. They are scheduled to play Celta Vigo again.
