Irina Kononova, an assistant professor in the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics at the Institute of Surgery of Pirogov University, reported that excessive consumption of simple carbohydrates causes polycystic ovary syndrome.
The expert points out that polycystic ovary syndrome is a common cause of infertility.
She says: "Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is the most common cause of infertility, in which ovarian follicles fail to mature. Diet is a major factor in the development of this syndrome. For example, consuming large amounts of simple carbohydrates (such as sweets) leads to metabolic syndrome, which in turn leads to insulin resistance, and therefore infertility. PCOS can also lead to acne, hair loss, impaired lipid metabolism, cardiovascular disease, depression, anxiety, and cancer."
It indicates that excess insulin in the blood stimulates the ovaries to produce more male hormones, which disrupts follicle development and ovulation. Insulin resistance and inflammation associated with obesity also create a toxic environment for egg maturation, reducing egg quality and fertilization potential. Furthermore, hormonal changes and chronic inflammation negatively affect the uterine lining, making it less receptive to implantation.
According to her, if physical activity decreases, this process worsens, as the calories derived from nutrients are not consumed, but rather contribute to the accumulation of fat tissue.
