Indonesian Wushu ensures national training will continue for the Asian Games

The Indonesian Wushu Executive Board  has confirmed that the national training camp  will continue in preparation for the 2026 Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan.

"We are ready for the 2026 Asian Games, and we have a centralized national training center in Jakarta that will continue," said PB WI Secretary General Ngatino to the media in Jakarta on Wednesday.

He conveyed this in response to the Indonesian Wushu national training program after the wushu branch was no longer a priority branch in the National Sports Grand Design .

Ngatino explained that his team had summoned all athletes from various regions who were considered to have a chance of winning medals at the Asian Games to undergo a training camp.

The team has not yet confirmed the potential medals for the various events that can be won, but all athletes are being prepared through intensive training to ensure they can perform optimally in each event they participate in.

He explained that his team's efforts to prepare the best wushu talent are facilitated by the support of well-functioning athlete development at the provincial level. He said that athletes from the regions come with sufficient skills, allowing them to be refined in the national training camp.

Ngatino cited the collaboration between central and regional administrators in developing athletes, such as during the recent 10th World Junior Wushu Championships in 2026 in China. The Indonesian national team finished third in that event, winning nine gold medals, eleven silver medals, and seven bronze medals.

"All provinces are actively involved in coaching, making things easier for us. With just one month of coaching, we can achieve the achievements we've achieved together," he said.

Furthermore, Ngatino explained that in addition to national training, the athletes are also being prepared to compete in the Asian Games, such as participating in the upcoming World Taijiquan Championships.
