Indonesian women's tennis player Janice Tjen has shifted her focus entirely to the singles event at the Charleston Open after losing in the doubles event with compatriot Aldila Sutjiadi.
Competing in the first round of the WTA 500 event in Charleston, USA, Janice/Aldila were unable to stop the top seeded pair Aleksandra Krunic/Zhang Shuai with 6-7(3), 5-7, according to WTA records.
The first set was a tight affair, with the Croatian/Chinese duo attempting to dominate with their powerful serves. Krunic/Shuai served an ace and connected on 71.8 percent of their first serves.
While Janice/Aldila committed two double faults, Krunic/Shuai converted their only break point opportunity. They then went on to win seven of the 10 tie-break points to take the lead.
Janice/Aldila attempted a comeback in the second set, winning with two aces and a 66.7 percent return percentage. However, Krunic/Shuai held firm on their serve to secure the victory after one hour and 33 minutes.
