Dr. Natalia Sermais, a specialist in dermatology, hair and cosmetology, points out that information has recently spread on the internet stating that not washing hair for a long time leads to consequences such as graying and baldness.

According to her, many took this information as a call to action and resorted to extreme measures. Some began washing their hair three times a day, while others, conversely, refrained from washing it until the last minute, fearing "damage to the hair follicles." She noted that this panic was premature.

She says: "This is actually a myth. In other words, hair should be washed as needed, and everyone has their own needs. This does not lead to graying or baldness."

According to her, if a person reduces how often they wash their hair, or conversely, starts washing it after a long break, they might notice clumps of hair falling out on their arms. This is no less alarming than the myth of baldness. However, this phenomenon is due to the laws of physics, not to any disease.

She says: "This may contribute to hair buildup, which is why hair seems to fall out more than before after washing."

In response to a question about how often to wash your hair, she points out that it depends on your scalp type and how oily it is. Those with oily scalps can wash their hair daily, while those with dry scalps are advised to wash it every 3-4 days. The basic rule is: wash your hair when it's dirty, not according to a specific schedule.

For her part, dermatologist Dr. Mariat Mukhina points out that the frequency of hair washing depends on individual needs. For example, with a dry scalp, shampooing once every five days is sufficient, while with an oily scalp, daily washing is recommended. Rinsing the hair with running water without using any products daily is also advised, regardless of scalp type.
