Former player Shunsuke Nakamura has been officially appointed as a member of the Japanese national team's coaching staff under the leadership of head coach Hajime Moriyasu.
As quoted from the official website of the Japan Football Federation (JFA), Thursday, Nakamura will help Moriyasu prepare for the 2026 World Cup, which is scheduled to be held from June to July.
Nakamura said he was delighted to be part of the Japanese national team's coaching staff for the 2026 World Cup.
"I carefully considered the implications of joining at such a crucial time, just before the World Cup final, but after receiving encouraging words and support from Coach Moriyasu, I decided to accept the position," Nakamura explained.
"I will strive to share the same aspirations as the Japanese national team players competing on the world stage and contribute to achieving the goals the team has set," he continued.
