The Istanbul Public Prosecutor's Office announces an indictment against 35 Israeli suspects regarding the attack on the "Steadfastness Flotilla"

The prosecution said in a statement that the Terrorism Crimes Investigation Bureau, as part of its investigations, concluded that the ships of the civilian flotilla, which was established with the aim of delivering humanitarian aid to Gaza and is known in the media as the "Global Resilience Flotilla," were subjected to armed interference by Israeli security elements while sailing in international waters, an interference that lacks legal legitimacy and is characterized by a serious and systematic nature.

The statement explained that this intervention included forcibly stopping ships, detaining civilians using violence and coercion, and subjecting them to physical assaults and treatment incompatible with human dignity, which constitutes a flagrant and serious violation of the most basic rules of international law.

He added that the investigations identified 35 suspects believed to have participated in the planning and execution, and arrest warrants were issued for a number of them, as they were charged with crimes including “crimes against humanity”, “genocide”, “deprivation of liberty”, “intentional injury”, “torture”, “looting”, “damage to property”, and “seizure of means of transport”.

On October 1st, the Israeli occupation army attacked 42 ships belonging to the Steadfastness Flotilla while they were sailing in international waters towards Gaza, and arrested hundreds of international activists on board, before beginning to deport them.

UN reports indicate that the humanitarian situation in the sector has reached unprecedented levels, with continued restrictions on the entry of aid and the closure of crossings, further complicating the crisis.

Israel has been blockading the Gaza Strip for 18 years, and about 1.5 million Palestinians out of about 2.4 million in the Strip are now homeless after the war of extermination destroyed their homes.

Israel began a war of extermination in the Gaza Strip with American support on October 8, 2023, which resulted in the martyrdom of more than 72,000 Palestinians, and the injury of more than 172,000 others, most of them children and women, and the displacement of most of the Strip’s population in harsh humanitarian conditions, in addition to widespread destruction of infrastructure, including hospitals, schools, and water and electricity networks.
