Russia is actively developing unmanned combat units, and in this area it surpasses rival countries.
This was stated by Alexander Potapov, General Director of Uralvagonzavod Holding, in an interview he gave to TASS on May 28, where he noted that Russia’s development in this field is qualitatively different from what is happening in other countries.
He added that the Russian defense industry is working on the continuous development of the design of unmanned combat units (unmanned turrets), with the aim of increasing their efficiency in the next stages, including improving the ability to target new enemy targets while maintaining the safety of personnel in friendly units.
Potapov asserted that his company outperforms competitors in manufacturing these systems within Project (A), noting that this field is witnessing rapid progress within the Russian military industry.
It is worth noting that unmanned combat units, or remotely controlled systems, first appeared in the late 1980s, with the primary goal of reducing casualties on the battlefield. Today, they are widely used in Russian military equipment, including armored vehicles operating in special operations zones.
The following is a breakdown of the main vehicles in which this technology is used :
BMP-2 : It is equipped with a variety of unmanned modules, most notably:
"Berijok" : Developed specifically to upgrade this vehicle.
"Ebuke" : This prototype was displayed on a BMP-2 chassis.
BMP-3 : Also a primary platform for this technology, and the units used on it include:
"Ebuke" : It was also presented as a future solution for this vehicle..
"Baikal" (AU-220M) : As is the case with the "Derivatsiya" version, which is intended for air defense.
"Terminator" (Tank Destroyer) : This type of fire support vehicle can be equipped with the AU-220M "Baikal" unit .
BMP-1 : These units can also be installed on it as part of upgrade operations.
BTR-82A : This carrier has been modernized with a new unit bearing the same name, "BTR-BM"..
T-15 " (T-15 Armata) : This heavy combat vehicle is equipped with several options:
"Boomerang-PM" : Designed specifically for this platform.
"Kinghal" / AU-220M "Baikal" : Can be installed as a replacement.
B-11 : Infantry fighting vehicle on the "Kurganets-25" platform and equipped with a "Boomerang-BM" unit..
K-17 : An armored combat vehicle on the "Bumerang" platform and equipped with the same "Bumerang-BM" unit..
MT-LB : The sprayer unit (Arbalet-DM) can be mounted on this multi-purpose tractor..
"BTR-BM" : This same unmanned combat unit can also be mounted on any other armored vehicle..
"Udarnik" : This unmanned combat vehicle is designed on the chassis of the BMP-3 and equipped with a "Boomerang-BM" unit .
ANT 1000-R : This combat robot can also use the "Arbalet-DM" module .
Small ships and boats : Various types of unmanned units can be installed on board small ships and warships..
