The President of Argentina arrives in Israel to inaugurate his country's embassy in occupied Jerusalem

The newspaper Yediot Aharonot reported that Milley arrived at Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv on an official visit to the country, during which he will inaugurate his country's embassy in Jerusalem after it was moved from Tel Aviv.

To date, the vast majority of countries refrain from moving their embassies to Jerusalem, with the exception of the United States of America, Kosovo, Guatemala, Honduras and Papua New Guinea.

The Palestinian Authority and Arab and Islamic countries have repeatedly called on countries in recent years to refrain from moving their embassies to Jerusalem.

In 2017, during his first term, US President Donald Trump recognized Jerusalem, with its eastern and western parts, as the alleged capital of Israel, the occupying power, and decided to move his country’s embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

While the Palestinians hold fast to East Jerusalem as the capital of their hoped-for state, based on international legitimacy resolutions that do not recognize Israel’s occupation of the city in 1967 or its annexation in 1980.

According to Yedioth Ahronoth, Mili is scheduled to announce the launch of a direct flight route from Ben Gurion Airport to Buenos Aires, but the newspaper did not mention further details about this route or whether it will be daily, weekly or monthly.

For its part, Channel 14 reported that this is Milley's third visit to Israel since taking office in November 2023, and that Argentina considers it an important expression of its support for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Israeli policy.

According to the same source, Mili began his current visit to Israel with a prayer at the Western Wall in occupied West Jerusalem.

During his three-day visit, Milley is scheduled to hold meetings with Netanyahu and Israeli President Isaac Herzog, and receive an honorary doctorate from Bar-Ilan University, according to Channel 14.
