A tragedy struck a kindergarten in Kampala, Uganda, late Thursday morning. A 39-year-old man burst into the school and killed four children, aged 2 to 3, with a knife.
According to police, the suspect had come to the school a few days earlier to try to enroll a child. He was supposed to finalize the registration on the day of the crime. Authorities have confirmed the deaths of four minors.
Eteku Gideon, a boy of about 2 years old
Kaise Alungat, a 2-year-old girl
Ignatius Sserwange, a boy of about 3 years old
Ryan Odeke, a boy of about 2 years old
All were students at the same kindergarten. Ugandan police spokesman Kituuma Rusoke said the suspect was arrested as angry parents attempted to lynch him. Police used gunfire to disperse the crowd that had stormed the school. The motive for the crime remains unknown at this time.
This type of assassination is rare in the country. While awaiting the results of the investigation, the victims' families bury their children, overwhelmed by incomprehension at this outburst of violence against innocent people.
