USA: Arrested for drunk driving, Tiger Woods quits golf

At the time of his arrest on March 27 for driving under the influence after a car accident, golfer Tiger Woods told police he was in contact with the president, referring to Donald Trump.

But nothing confirms this statement. In March 2025, Woods announced he was in a relationship with Vanessa Trump, the former stepdaughter of the White House occupant.

Donald Trump told reporters that Tiger Woods is a close friend and a great guy, adding, however, that the star is going through a difficult time.

Authorities confirmed that Woods was in possession of hydrocodone at the time of his arrest. However, Woods pleaded not guilty Tuesday to the charges of driving under the influence.

The 50-year-old stated that he was stepping away from golf for an indefinite period "in order to undergo treatment and focus on his health."

Tiger Woods was the first African-American player to win the Masters in 1997. But his career has been hampered by injuries, notably following a car accident in Los Angeles in 2021, where he claims he narrowly escaped amputation of his right leg.
