USA: Death of Afrika Bambaataa, legend and pioneer of hip-hop

Afrika Bambaataa, American DJ and co-founder of the Zulu Nation, died at the age of 68 on Wednesday night.

His record label, Tommy Boy, announced the sad news on Instagram, triggering a wave of global emotion.

A major figure in the movement alongside DJ Kool Herc and Grandmaster Flash, Afrika Bambaataa made history with hits like "Planet Rock" (1982). He helped shape a culture that unites DJing, rap, graffiti and breakdancing, laying the foundations for a global phenomenon.

Born on April 17, 1957, in a working-class neighborhood of the Bronx, he grew up in an environment marked by tension and violence. With the Zulu Nation, he transformed this reality by organizing legendary block parties, replacing conflict with creativity and offering young people an alternative to violence.
