The US Embassy in Baghdad said it has set up a reward of up to $3 million for information that helps identify or locate those responsible for attacks targeting US diplomatic missions in Iraq.
This came in a written statement issued by the embassy on Sunday, following two separate attacks targeting US diplomatic missions in Iraq on Saturday evening.
The statement added that the aim of the two attacks, carried out by Iraqi groups backed by Iran, was to carry out assassinations against American diplomats.
He explained that in recent weeks hundreds of attacks have been carried out from within Iraqi territory targeting American citizens, neighboring countries, Iraqi state institutions and civilians, noting that these attacks have occurred in different areas, including the Kurdistan Region of northern Iraq.
He stated that the United States has repeatedly called on the Iraqi government to stop attacks targeting its institutions and to prevent militias from using Iraqi territory to carry out attacks.
The statement emphasized that the United States would not hesitate to defend its personnel and institutions if the Iraqi government failed to meet its obligations.
In recent days, Iraqi provinces have witnessed similar security incidents, coinciding with the continuation of the American-Israeli war on Iran .
Since February 28, Israel and the United States have been waging an aggression against Iran that has resulted in thousands of deaths and injuries, while Tehran responds by launching missiles and drones towards Israel.
Iran also targets what it calls “American interests” in Arab countries, causing deaths and injuries and damaging civilian property, which the targeted countries condemn and repeatedly demand be stopped.
