US President Donald Trump threatened on Sunday to bomb Iran's bridges and power plants and seize its oil unless it reopens the Strait of Hormuz.
Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform, “Tuesday will be Power Stations Day and Bridges Day, all in one package, in Iran. There will never be anything like it!!!”
He added sharply, “Open the damned strait, you crazy bastards, or you will live in hell.”
Trump also expressed his belief that there was a "good chance" of reaching an agreement with Iran on Monday.
Trump told a Fox News reporter, "I think there's a good chance tomorrow; they're negotiating right now."
He added, “If they don’t reach an agreement quickly, I am seriously considering destroying everything and seizing the oil.”
In an interview with the Wall Street Journal published on Sunday, Trump reiterated that the deadline he set for Iran to open the Strait of Hormuz or face attacks on vital infrastructure expires Tuesday evening.
Trump told the newspaper, “If they do nothing, by Tuesday evening they will have no power plants and they will have no bridges standing.”
The US president appeared to be extending the deadline given to Iran, as he posted a brief message that read: “Tuesday, 8:00 PM Eastern Time!”
The new deadline, at midnight Tuesday-Wednesday GMT, represents a one-day postponement of his ultimatum to Tehran, after he threatened to destroy the country's power plants and bridges if no agreement is reached.
The US president reminded the Islamic Republic on Saturday that the deadline he had given it to conclude an agreement to end the war and reopen the strait would expire in 48 hours, threatening it with “hell” if it did not respond to his demands.
