Woodman did not expect his Liverpool debut in the Merseyside Derby

Liverpool goalkeeper Freddie Woodman admitted he did not expect his Premier League debut with the Reds to come in the Merseyside derby against Everton when he came on in the second half and helped his team to a 2-1 win at Hill Dickinson Stadium on Sunday.

"I've been training hard all season. I didn't expect this opportunity to come, but it's incredible to have it happen in the Merseyside derby, and to win like that is absolutely incredible," Woodman said, as quoted on Liverpool's official website on Tuesday.

In this match, Woodman came on in the 58th minute to replace the injured Giorgi Mamardashvili, just after Everton had equalized through Beto's goal. His presence on the pitch was crucial in keeping Liverpool clean, with Virgil van Dijk scoring the winner with a header in the 90+10th minute.

Prior to this match, Woodman, who was brought in on a free from Preston North End, had only made one appearance, in the League Cup when Liverpool were beaten 0-3 by Crystal Palace at Anfield in the fourth round.

“It was a very beautiful moment for me and my family, so I was very happy,” he added.
