Indonesian cyclist Bernard Benyamin Van Aert has begun focusing on preparations for the 2026 Asian Games after winning six gold medals at the 2026 Indonesia Track Cup I and II.
Bernard is optimistic about competing for a gold medal at the 2026 Asian Games after competing at the Asian level for the past two years.
"Personally, I'd like to win a gold medal, of course. I was able to compete on the Asian stage two years ago," Bernard told.
The athlete, who will compete at the 2024 Paris Olympics, said the Omnium and Madison events are her main targets at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games next September.
For the Madison number, Bernard has the opportunity to partner with Andy Royan or Terry Yudha, depending on the development of each athlete's performance leading up to the event.
The track racing events contested at the 2026 Asian Games will only be Olympic events, namely Team Pursuit, Omnium, and Madison.
Meanwhile, Bernard admitted to being satisfied with the results he achieved at the 2026 Indonesia Track Cup I and II, with a total of six gold medals, one silver medal, and one bronze medal, as he is currently still in the process of returning to his best form.
The 2026 Indonesia Track Cup will be attended by six countries, namely Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines, Singapore, India, and Malaysia.
