From the stadium stands, these Botswana artists capture the present moment. Through their works, they immortalize key moments of this historic competition.
This is the first time that the World Athletics Relays has been held in Africa. Gaborone, the capital of Botswana was the host of this international event.
"This whole project revolved around the concept of sport and art. When sport meets art. So it was just about capturing the excitement, the energy, you see, the joy of the event, explains Gomolemo Kgosimodimo, a 37-year-old artist.
On the slopes and in the stands, the World Athletics Relays in Gaborone kept all its promises. The public was present for this event which put Botswana in the international spotlight.
For these artists, the international event was an opportunity to highlight their talent but above all to highlight the link between sport and art.
I think athletes are artists, another art form, because art is not limited to drawing or creating. Running is also art; the way we run is art; the way we build ourselves physically is art, explains Bezuba Kaunda, another artist present that day.
Between art, culture and of course sport, the World Athletics Relays in Gaborone 2026 will go down in history as the first world athletics event organized on the African continent.
