Actress Eye Haïdara has been appointed mistress of ceremonies for the opening and closing of the 2026 Cannes Film Festival, succeeding Laurent Laffite, the previous year's master of ceremonies.
The 79th edition of the 7th art festival will take place from May 12 to 23.
The 43-year-old actress, born to a Malian mother and a Malian and Moroccan father, began her career performing in classic plays on stage. She made her film debut in Audrey Estrougo's 2007 film and Jean-Luc Godard's 2007 film, but it was her supporting role alongside Jean-Pierre Bacri in C'est la Vie! that brought her to the attention of the general public ten years later.
A role that earned him a nomination for the César Award for Most Promising Actor in 2018.
Eye Haïdara notably walked the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival in 2018, alongside 15 other French actresses who took part in the collection of testimonies "Black is not my profession", in which they denounce racism towards black women in the French film industry.
The 79th Cannes Film Festival will be presided over by South Korean director Park Chan-Wook.
