Indonesian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Arif Havas Oegroseno said that responsible freedom of navigation must be limited and aims to protect the interests of archipelagic and coastal states.
"Freedom of navigation cannot be unlimited. It must have limits," Havas said after delivering a guest lecture at the Department of International Relations, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, University of Indonesia, in Depok, West Java.
In order to refine the proposed principle of responsible freedom of navigation, Havas will continue to conduct in-depth studies from various aspects of maritime law elements.
A series of discussions related to these principles will be held with maritime law experts and experts from related scientific fields at the national and regional levels.
"We are currently discussing in depth how to implement responsible freedom of navigation in our region, for example, because it has many aspects," he said.
