Member of Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Amelia Anggraini, said that all parties must not remain silent when responding to the news that activists and Indonesian journalists were kidnapped by Israel during a humanitarian mission to Gaza.
According to him, the Indonesian state or government must be fully present to protect every Indonesian citizen everywhere.
"We cannot remain silent when Indonesian citizens carrying humanitarian aid face repressive measures," Amelia said in a statement .
He also strongly condemned the arrest of a number of Indonesian citizens by the Israeli military.
According to him, the detention of civilian volunteers and journalists in international waters is not only a diplomatic issue, but also concerns the principles of humanity and respect for international law.
"Their safety, access to communication, and legal certainty must be the Indonesian government's top priority," he said.
He also urged the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemlu), the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), and all international diplomatic missions to act quickly to ensure the safety of the arrested Indonesian citizens and their immediate release.
Previously, Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono confirmed that Indonesia had coordinated with Indonesian representatives in the Middle East and friendly countries whose citizens participated in the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) that was attacked by Israel.
He said that intensive coordination was carried out to ensure the safety of the nine Indonesian citizens who were confirmed to have been kidnapped by Israel, which ambushed a humanitarian convoy to the Gaza Strip earlier this week.
"We are asking for help from our colleagues, first, (countries) whose citizens have experienced a similar fate, then our colleagues in Jordan and Turkey," said Sugiono when met at the Senayan Parliament Complex.
