The Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Sherif Fathy, and the Governor of Luxor, Abdel Muttalib Emara, inaugurated the tombs of Amenhotep "Rabouya" (TT416) and his son Samut (TT417) in the El-Khokha region, on the west bank of Luxor, on Thursday, May 14, 2026, following the completion of restoration and development work on the site.
Mr. Fathy stressed that archaeological preservation was an absolute priority to ensure sustainability for future generations.
He described the project as a journey spanning from 2015 to 2026, and thanked the governor and the archaeological team for the success of this project.
The minister stressed that cooperation with the private sector for on-site services will enhance the visitor experience, under the ministry's strict supervision. "Development must be accompanied by conservation efforts guided by clear performance indicators," he added.
Governor Emara stated that Luxor continues to reveal new secrets thanks to the efforts of the ministry and the mission, highlighting Luxor's status as a capital of cultural tourism and its ongoing development.
He stated that the "Decent Life" cleanup projects would be implemented in July to protect West Bank sites from groundwater, ahead of the peak season in October.
SCA Secretary General Hisham El-Leithy said the opening of two restored ancient tombs in Luxor was a major boost to the country's archaeological sites, due to their outstanding historical and cultural value.
