Expert: Russia may develop weapons based on new physical principles

Military analyst Igor Korchenko, editor-in-chief of National Defense magazine and director of the Center for Analysis of World Arms Trade, suggests that Russia may be developing weapons based on new physical principles

He says: "It is clear that we are talking about promising military projects owned by companies and design bureaus belonging to the Russian defense industrial complex. It can be assumed that this development may include weapon systems based on new physical principles, and of course these are strategic weapons."

According to him, hypersonic technologies allow for the creation of new types of missiles of various classes.

He says: “Therefore, it is generally clear that Dmitry Medvedev announced in his speech the possibility of completing tests on a whole range of new weapons and starting their serial production, which is very important in light of the collapse of the previous world order and the resort of the major world powers, especially the West, to military means to resolve various political and economic contradictions.”

The expert points out that the factor of deterring potential adversaries through Russia’s ability to possess new types of weapons in its arsenal is extremely important in the current circumstances.

It is worth noting that Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council, announced on April 30 that Russia, in addition to the Oreshnik ballistic missiles and Poseidon unmanned submarines, possesses other advanced weapons systems, the details of which he will not disclose.
