FIBA is optimistic that Indonesia has the potential to become a new force in Asian basketball

The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) believes Indonesia has great potential to develop into a new basketball powerhouse in Asia, amid growing fan enthusiasm and the massive number of international tournaments held in recent years.

FIBA Chief Operating Officer (COO) Patrick Mariller said Indonesia's success as one of the hosts of the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup in Jakarta is evidence of the development of the national basketball ecosystem.

"Based on what was demonstrated at the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup in Jakarta, we truly see great potential. There is a large and growing basketball fan base in Indonesia," Patrick said in Jakarta on Thursday.

According to him, the development of Indonesian basketball is not only seen from the organization of international events, but also from the increasing public interest in the sport.

FIBA stated that this momentum needs to be maintained through the development of basketball from the grassroots to the elite level.
