The Finix Running Club team emerged as the overall champion of the 2026 Finix Athletics Sumatra Open Championship at the Tri Lomba Juang Stadium, Jambi, on May 9-11, winning 23 gold, 26 silver, and 14 bronze medals after defeating clubs from South Sumatra, West Sumatra, and Riau, as well as several clubs in Jambi.
Finix coach Salim Umarela said this result demonstrates his team's success in developing young athletic athletes.
Jambi athletes outperformed hundreds of athletes from Riau, South Sumatra, and West Sumatra in the championship which was attended by more than 300 athletes from various regions in Sumatra.
This event features 90 events, ranging from sprints, middle distance running, relays, long jumps, high jumps, to javelin throws and shot put.
"The professional standards of the event make it a new benchmark for athletic development in Sumatra in general and in Jambi Province in particular," Salim said in Jambi on Tuesday.
The Finix team dominated the track and field events. They consistently excelled in the short and middle distance running, field events, long jump, and javelin, achieving near championship records.
"These results are the result of a structured coaching and training program implemented over the past six months. The key is discipline and a program tailored to each athlete's character, ensuring the children are physically and mentally prepared well in advance," Salim said.
