Football: the 2026 women's CAN postponed, the location still uncertain

After several weeks of uncertainty and just 12 days before the scheduled kick-off in Morocco, the African Women's Cup of Nations has been postponed.

The Confederation of African Football has confirmed that it will now take place during the summer, from July 25 to August 16.

The women's CAN was initially scheduled for March 17 to April 3, but organizers requested a change of dates due to "unforeseen circumstances", said the Confederation of African Football, without giving further details.

For several days, uncertainty had been growing regarding morocco's desire to host the event as initially planned. CAF has not confirmed whether Morocco will host the tournament again for the third time in a row.

The president of the African football body, Patrice Motsepe, had previously ruled out any postponement, because the competition serves as qualification for the 2027 Women's World Cup.

The teams now find themselves without any matches to play during the international break, which constitutes a new setback for women's football players and fans.
