Former Deputy Minister of Manpower Noel: I will not run away from responsibility

Deputy Minister of Manpower for the 2024–2025 period, Immanuel "Noel" Ebenezer Gerungan, emphasized that he will not run away from responsibility or deny responsibility related to the alleged extortion case in the processing of Occupational Safety and Health (K3) certificates.

"I am truly devastated by this and I am indeed guilty," Noel said at the rebuttal hearing, or response to the public prosecutor's reply, at the Corruption Court at the Central Jakarta District Court on Monday.

However, Noel admitted that he only asked for a little consideration of the judge's wisdom regarding his demands.

Previously, Noel was sentenced to 5 years in prison, a fine of Rp. 250 million or 90 days in prison, and compensation of Rp. 4.43 billion or 2 years in prison in this case.

Based on the trial facts, Noel feels that the facts and evidence presented by his lawyer have met the legal and justice standards required today.

Therefore, he thanked the panel of judges and the public prosecutor (JPU) who had worked extraordinarily hard with their various legal arguments.

"I respect the work of my fellow prosecutors," he added.

In the case of alleged extortion in the processing of Occupational Safety and Health (K3) certificates within the Ministry of Manpower and gratuities in the 2024–2025 period, he was accused of extorting K3 certification or license applicants worth IDR 6.52 billion and accepting gratuities.
