Former German national team player Lukas Podolski announced his retirement at the age of 40.
The player who was part of the German national team that won the 2014 World Cup decided to hang up his boots after recently becoming the owner of Polish club Gornik Zabrze.
"A story ends. An era begins. World champion Lukas Podolski will end his career this week," Gornik Zabrze wrote on Instagram on Saturday.
"He will become the owner of his childhood club, Gornik Zabrze. Thank you for everything, Poldi, and good luck in his new role!" wrote Gornik Zabrze.
Poldi, as he is familiarly known, had a career at a number of German League clubs, including Cologne and Bayern Munich.
In the German League with the Billy Goats, Poldi made 181 appearances and scored 79 goals. Meanwhile, at FC Hollywood, Poldi was part of Bayern Munich's success in winning the German League Cup and the German League in 2008.
Poldi also played for Arsenal, Inter Milan, Galatasaray, and Vissel Kobe before retiring at Gornik Zabrze.
Poldi secured the final title of his career by winning the 2025/2026 Polish Cup.
