PSIM management officially announced the contract extension of head coach Jean-Paul Van Gastel to lead the team, the pride of Yogyakarta residents, in the Super League competition next season.
"Coach Van Gastel has proven his capabilities throughout this season, fitting perfectly with the club's game plan and football style," said PSIM Yogyakarta General Manager Steven Sunny in Yogyakarta on Saturday.
According to him, the decision was taken after management evaluated the development of the team's performance during this season, as well as the alignment with the club's vision.
Steven sees the consistency of the Laskar Mataram team from the beginning to the end of the season under the guidance of the former Besiktas coach, Türkiye, which can be a capital for moving forward.
"Throughout this season, the team has demonstrated its game identity, both in attack and ball possession," he said.
He said that efforts to build a sustainable squad cannot be done instantly and that a process is needed for the team to develop as expected, building on the foundations established this season.
